1. WHAT FAMVIR 750 mg. FILM-COATED TABLETS IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Famvir 750 mg. belongs to the group of medications known as antiviral agents.
Famvir 750 mg. is indicated for the treatment of herpes zoster.

2. BEFORE YOU TAKE FAMVIR 750 mg. FILM-COATED TABLETS
Follow all your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions exactly even of they are different to the instructions that appear in this patient information leaflet.
Read the following information before you take Famvir 750 mg.

Do not take Famvir 750 mg.:
If you are allergic to famciclovir or any of the other ingredients of Famvir 750 mg. listed at the end of this leaflet, to penciclovir or other antiviral agents that belong to the same group.

Take special care with Famvir 750 mg.:
Inform your doctor if you suffer any kidney problems because he should adjust your dose.

Taking Famvir 750 mg. with food and drink:
Famvir 750 mg. may be taken with or without food.

Use of Famvir 750 mg. in elderly patients:
No special recommendation for the administration of Famvir 750 mg. in elderly patients is required unless renal function is impaired, in which case the doctor should be informed.

Use of Famvir 750 mg. in children:
There is currently insufficient experience of the use of Famvir 750 mg. in children and therefore its use is not recommended.

Pregnancy and lactation
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.
Before taking this medication inform your doctor if you are pregnant or think you could be. During pregnancy or lactation your doctor will decide whether it is convenient for you to use this medication or not.

Effects on the ability to drive and use machinery:
Famvir may cause reactions such as vertigo / dizziness, somnolence or confusion. Therefore caution should be taken when driving a vehicle or using machinery until you know exactly how Famvir affects you.

Taking other medications:
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including any non-prescription medicines. Some medicines and Famvir 750 mg. may interfere with each other. In these cases you may need to take different amounts of these medicines or you may need to interrupt treament with one of the meciations. It is particularly important that you inform your doctor if you are taking any medication that contains probenecid or other medicines that can affect your kidneys. Your doctor may need to change the dose of the medications you are taking or he may even recommend that you change the medication.

3. HOW TO TAKE FAMVIR 750 mg. FILM-COATED TABLETS
Follow these instructions unless your doctor tells you otherwise. If you have any questions ask your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor will indicate the duration of your treatment with Famvir 750 mg. Do not interrupt the treatment before because your condition may worsen and you may experience unwanted side effects.
Remember to take your medication at the same time everyday so as to avoid forgetting it.
Take Famvir 750 mg. by mouth. Swallow the tablets whole with some water.
The usual recommended dose is one tablet once daily for seven days.

If you take more Famvir 750 mg. than you should:
If you think that you or another person have taken more Famvir 750 mg. than should be taken, immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist, go to the nearest hospital or contact the local poison control centre

If you forget to take Famvir 750 mg.:
Do not take a double dose to make up for the one that you missed. If you forget to take a dose take it as soon as you can. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, leave out the missed dose and take your next tablet at the usual time.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Famvir 750 mg. can have side effects although not everyone experiences them.

Some of the serious side effects of Famvir are:
- Blistering of the skin and / or mucous membranes of the lips, eyes, mouth, nasal passage or genital area (symptoms of a serious allergic reaction).
- Bruising, reddened skin or unexplained purple patches on the skin or nosebleeds (symptoms indicating that the number of platelets in your blood is reduced).
Inform your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital if you notice any of these adverse effetcs.

Other adverse effects:
Rarely nausea, headache, or confusion (predominantly in the elderly) may occur.
Very rarely vomiting, hallucinations, vertigo / dizziness, somnolence (predominantly in the elderly), jaundice, skin rash, pruritus, urticaria have been experienced. If you think that any of the adverse effects you experience appear to be serious or if you notice any other adverse reaction not mentioned in this patient information leaflet, inform your doctor or pharmacist.

5. STORING FAMVIR 750 mg. FILM-COATED TABLETS
Keep Famvir 750 mg. in a safe place, where children cannot reach or see it.
Do not store above 30°C.
Store in the original package.
Do not use this product after the expiry date printed on the pack. The expiry date is that last day of the moth that appears on the box.

Do not dispose of medicines down the drain or with other household waste. Consult your pharmacist about the correct disposal of the packs and medicines you do not need. These measures contribute to protecting the environment.

6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Composition of Famvir 750 mg. film-coated tablets
The active ingredient contained in Famvir 750mg film-coated tablets is famciclovir. Each tablet contains 750 mg. famciclovir.

The excipients are: hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium starch glycollate, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide E 171, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, polyethylene glycol 4000, polyethylene glycol 6000.
