BEFORE YOU TAKE ARIMIDEX
Do not take ARIMIDEX:
• ARIMIDEX should not be administered to:
- Pre-menopausal women, pregnant women or mothers who are breastfeeding their babies.
- Patients with certain moderate or severe disorders or diseases, which affect the liver.
- Patients with certain severe disorders or diseases, which affect the kidneys.
- Patients who are taking tamoxifen or oestrogen-containing medicines, for example hormone replacement therapy.
- Children.
- Patients who have ever had an allergic reaction to ARIMIDEX or to any of its excipients.
Take special care with ARIMIDEX:
• Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if:
- You have a history of or are suffering from any condition which affects the strength of your bones.
- You are taking any LHRH analogues (medicines used to treat breast cancer, certain gynaecological conditions and infertility).
- You are taking tamoxifen. It may lessen the effect of ARIMIDEX.
- You are suffering from any disorder or disease which affects your liver or kidneys. See: “Do not take ARIMIDEX”.
- ARIMIDEX lowers the levels of female hormones and this may lead to a loss of the mineral content of bones, which might decrease their strength.
- If you go into hospital let the medical staff know you are taking ARIMIDEX.

Pregnancy and lactation:
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication. See: “Do not take ARIMIDEX”.
Use in children:

Effects on ability to drive and use machines:
Your tablets are unlikely to adversely affect your ability to drive a car or to operate machinery. However, some patients may occasionally feel weak or sleepy. If this happens to you, ask your doctor for advice.
Taking other medications:
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have recently taken any other medication, even if bought without a prescription.
Certain medications may interact with ARIMIDEX; in these cases it may be necessary to change the dosage or interrupt the treatment with one of the medications. It is particularly important that you inform your doctor if you use any of the following medications: Tamoxifen or oestrogen-containing medicines (female sex hormones).

HOW TO TAKE ARIMIDEX
Follow these instructions when taking this medication unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Remember to take your medication.
Your doctor will indicate the duration of your treatment with ARIMIDEX. Do not suspend treatment before the period recommended by your doctor.
Usual dosage:
• In adults (including the elderly), the usual recommended dose is one tablet (1 mg.) to be taken orally once a day.
• In patients with mild / moderate renal impairment or mild hepatic impairment, the usual recommended dose is also one tablet (1 mg.) to be taken orally once a day.
• ARIMIDEX tablets should be swallowed whole with a drink of water.
• Try to take your tablets at the same time each day.
• Do not stop taking your tablets even if you are feeling well, until your doctor tells you.
If you take more ARIMIDEX than you should:
If you take more than your normal dose contact your doctor or nearest hospital.
In the case of an overdose or accidental ingestion contact your doctor.
If you forget to take a dose of ARIMIDEX:
You should take ARIMIDEX as prescribed. However, if you miss a dose do not take an extra dose. Just resume your usual schedule.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
As with all medicines, undesirable events are sometimes experienced with ARIMIDEX.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately if the following happens to you or if you experience any other problem:
Very common (? 10%)
Vascular disorders: Hot flushes.
Common ( 1% and < 10%)
General disorders: Asthenia
Musculoskeletal, connective tissue and bone disorders: Joint pain or stiffness.
Reproductive system and breast disorders: Vaginal dryness.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Hair thinning, rash.
Gastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, diarrhoea.
Nervous system disorders: Headache
Uncommon ( 0.1% and <1%)
Reproductive system and breast disorders: Vaginal bleeding.
Metabolism and nutrition disorders: loss of appetite, hypercholesterolaemia.
Gastrointestinal disorders: Vomiting.
Nervous system disorders: Somnolence
Very rare (<0.01%)
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Extremely severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome) with lesions, ulcers or blisters. Allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat (angioedema), which may cause difficulty in swallowing and/or breathing. Urticaria.
ARIMIDEX lowers the levels of female hormones and this may lead to a loss of the mineral content of bones, which might decrease their strength and in some cases might result in fractures.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you think you have any of these or any other problems with your tablets.
STORING ARIMIDEX
Keep ARIMIDEX out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not store above 30º.
Store in the original package.
Expiry:
Do not use ARIMIDEX after the expiry date indicated on the package.
