Allergy
Allergy is an abnormal reaction of the body to substances from the outside environment. Such substances may be taken into the body through the skin (insect bites, carpet, animal contact, etc. by mouth (foods and beverages); or through the nose and lungs (pollens, house dust, animal dander, etc.). The substances that set off the allergic reaction are called allergens.
Allergies can cause asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, eczema, and hay fever with symptoms ranging from a runny nose or eyes, wheezing episodes, nasal or chest congestion, frequent colds, cough, bronchitis, itching, sinus headaches, post-nasal drip, frequent sore throats, recurrent ear infections, burning and itching of the eyes to bouts of sneezing. Asthma is a complex disorder of airways. Several factors may cause asthma, and one of them is allergic reaction.

Types of Allergies
Allergies can occur in response to different substances in the environment. Depending upon the cause it can create a number of medical problems. Types of allergies; Asthma, Food Allergies, Children Allergies, Latex Allergy, Hay Fever, Airborne and Seasonal Allergies, Skin Allergies, Insects Stings, Urticaria - Hives
Asthma
Asthma is a respiratory condition characterized by episodes of airflow obstruction in the bronchial tubes. Symptoms caused by this obstruction include coughing, chest tightness, wheezing and shortness of breath. Although problems are often separated by symptom-free periods, asthma is a chronic illness.
Food Allergies
Accessing Food Allergies Many patients react to certain foods when they are having allergy symptoms. Some foods are commonly associated with increased allergy symptoms, even when the primary cause of the allergy is due to other things such as seasonal allergens like molds, grasses, trees, and weeds. For this reason, I suggest all new patients avoid the most common allergy foods for an initial five-day period. This is called a food restriction period. I suggest you avoid this list of eight foods from Monday to Friday of any given week.
THE LIST OF EIGHT FOODS TO AVOID: Dairy Products, Citrus Fruits and Juices, Tomatoes and Tomato Products, Brown Colas. Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi Cola, Etc. Chocolate, Grains, Wheat, barley, oats, and especially corn, Sugar, Eggs
Children Allergies
Any child may become allergic, but children from families with a history of allergy are more likely to be allergic. Children may inherit the tendency to become allergic from their parents, but only some of them will develop active allergic disease. Allergies can show up in different ways in children. Some children get skin rashes (atopic dermatitis) from allergy, some develop asthma, and some get hay fever.
Latex Allergies
The incidence of serious allergic reactions to latex has increased in recent years. In rare cases, these allergies can be fatal. Health care workers and others who are frequently exposed to products containing latex should be aware of the potential for developing an allergic reaction. Individuals who exhibit symptoms of the allergy should be alerted to the need to avoid future exposure to latex products.
Allergic Rhinitis - Hay Fever
Rhinitis is a term describing the symptoms produced by nasal irritation or inflammation. Symptoms of rhinitis include runny nose, itching, sneezing and stuffy nose due to blockage or congestion. These symptoms are the nose's natural response to inflammation and irritation. Arbitrarily, rhinitis lasting less than six weeks is called acute rhinitis, and persistent symptoms are called chronic rhinitis. Acute rhinitis is usually caused by infections or chemical irritation. Chronic rhinitis may be caused by allergy or a variety of other factors.
Allergies (Seasonal)
The cause of allergic reactions is based in the immune system. An antigen on the pollen of plants activates antibodies on white blood cells to release histamines which cause the allergic reaction. The body detects harmless pollen as an invader and responds as it normally would; it releases histamines. But with allergies, the body produces much more than is necessary. This excess histamine then binds with other cells to produce the symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, itchy eyes, and a stuffy nose.
Insect Sting Allergy
Several insects belonging to the class Hymenoptera are capable of injecting venom into humans and animals. These insects include honeybees, bumble bees, hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, and fire ants.
Urticaria - Hives
Urticaria is commonly known as hives. First the skin itches, then it erupts into red welts. The itching may be severe, keeping people from working or sleeping. It's a distressing disorder which affects an estimated 20 percent of the population at one time or another in their lives.
