Elavil: A Time-Tested Antidepressant
Depression can seem like a nightmare: a muddy pit of sadness and futility that, whenever you try to climb out of it, you only fall further in. And for millennia, there was no reliable way out. If you were depressed, that was that – you had an overabundance of melancholic humors, and such was your fate. But in the 1950s, things changed: scientists made it possible to treat depression with Elavil (amitriptyline). And now, 60 years later, you can buy Elavil online and buy antidepressants without prescription. What a long, strange trip it’s been!
Depression has undeniably been a part of the human experience for as long as our collective memory lasts, but medical treatments for it are relatively new. More ancient cures include alcohol, which for centuries was held to be more curative than deleterious. In fact, alcohol will tend to only provide a very temporary relief from the weight of the world before bringing it back and then some when its effects wear off. In this vein, early psychologists prescribed such potent narcotics as opium and cocaine as depression treatments. Such was the popularity of opium in treating the hysteria of oppressed Victorian women that the mental impression of the opiated housewife, her depression and dissatisfaction buried under a layer of opium and unconcern, became an archetype in later years. It would take many decades to reach the 1950s, when a new generation of dissatisfied homebodies and rebellious teens would spur research into new chemical ways of curing what ailed them.
Tricyclics, after “sunshine” and “a mother’s love”, are the oldest type of antidepressants. They were first developed in the psychopharmacology boom of the early 1950s. The first tricyclic indicated for the treatment of depression was imipramine, originally developed as a sedative. The drug’s tendency to induce manic effects in some patients was described “quite disastrous”. The paradoxical observation of a sedative inducing mania led to testing with depressed patients, and a whole class of medicines was born.
Merck introduced the second member of the tricyclic family, Elavil (amitriptyline), in 1961. This compound has a different three-ring structure from imipramine, and immediately showed a great improvement over its predecessor. But what was an even bigger step forward was the open discussion of depression and mental states that the 1960s brought about. People like the put-upon housewife and the chomping-at-the-bit teenager could speak their minds and have them heard, and a huge number of lazily-diagnosed cases of externally-remediable depression were exposed and could be dealt with properly.
The result? Far fewer “depressed” people nowadays, and better, more reliable antidepressants for those psychiatrically depressed people who truly need them. Anyone who suffers from depression can buy antidepressants without prescription, and anyone who wants an antidepressant with 60 years of proven efficacy can buy Elavil online. Now that’s what I call progress.

We’re living in the golden age of anxiety. There are more people living with anxiety due to modern life than ever before. And with the huge number of medications out there just waiting to be prescribed, the medical establishments are all too happy to declare people clinically anxious and suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Usually, antidepressants are prescribed – a bit of overkill, but what are you going to do? Well, what most people don’t know is that there is an anti-anxiety medication, (anxiolytic) without prescription that treats anxiety as well as any antidepressant, but with the mild side effects of an antihistamine. Read on to find out all the reasons to
Panic attacks are episodes of intense fear, anxiety and apprehension with a very sudden onset. Maybe you remember Tony Soprano and his son on The Sopranos suffering from them – crippling, overwhelming anxiety that pulls the rug out from under the sufferer. We can all suffer a panic attack in the right circumstances – any traumatic episode, if sufficiently dreadful, will only naturally make us terrified, fearful, and incapable of action. However, most of us will never suffer a panic attack, let alone several a week. For people who suffer from panic disorder, treatment is a must. That’s why so many seek out and buy antidepressants without a prescription – specifically for panic disorder, many choose to
Manic depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental disorder that causes extreme shifts in mood, energy, and ability to function.
